From Burbank Unified School District:
Dear Burbank Unified School District Community,
The decision to close schools was not taken lightly. With collaboration and support from the Los Angeles County Office of Education, we made a choice with our students, teachers, and staff in mind. Today, we are writing to inform you that all Burbank Unified School District schools, district office, other sites and childcare programs will reopen on Monday, January 13, 2025 with the regular schedule.
We recognize the profound impact the recent fires surrounding Los Angeles have had on our students, families, teachers, and staff. The devastation and disruption caused by these fires have been deeply felt throughout our community. Our hearts go out to those who have been affected, and we stand in solidarity with you during this challenging time.
As we prepare to reopen, please know that the safety and well-being of students and staff is always our top priority. We have taken all necessary measures to ensure that our schools and offices are safe and ready to welcome everyone back. We deeply appreciate our Burbank Unified School District Facilities Team’s tireless efforts and long hours spent assessing, managing, and repairing the damages incurred due to severe high winds. Their hard work has been crucial in assuring that we can reopen safely.
To support our community, the Burbank Family Service Agency is offering a range of services, including free mental health support through a dedicated telehealth line. This service is available in English, Spanish, and Armenian, and provides compassionate assistance to those in need. You can reach the support line at 818-561-8552, available from 10 a.m. to 10 p.m., seven days a week
We will also be closely monitoring air quality and will follow the Burbank Unified School District Board Policy on air quality protocols to ensure the safety of our students and staff. According to the policy, if the Air Quality Index (AQI) reaches 151 or higher, outdoor activities will be limited, and students will remain indoors. This policy is in place to protect the health of our students and staff during periods of poor air quality. We monitor the air quality regularly and will make adjustments as needed.
We understand the importance of after-school athletic competitions and extracurricular activities in our students' lives. For Monday, January 13, 2025, all after school activities (indoors and outdoors) are canceled. Decisions regarding these activities are and will be made with student safety in mind, and any necessary adjustments will be communicated promptly by your school principals.
Thank you for your resilience and understanding during this difficult period. We look forward to seeing our students back in their classrooms and continuing our shared mission of education and growth.
Together, we will overcome these challenges and emerge stronger as a community. Let's support one another and look forward to brighter days ahead.
